- Low-cost, when compared to other roof coverings
- Wide range of products, colours, sizes and innovations
- Available in plain or profiled options

Slate Roofing
Slate has lined our roofs since the Roman times. However, today’s choice of local, imported or man-made slate is dictated by a number of factors and the foremost of these factors is price.
British Slate is durable, hard-wearing and watertight and locally sourced slate is an enduring sight on our roofs.
The introduction of BS EN 123261 in 2004 also guarantees that newly quarried British slate is frost and fire-proof.
Several other types of stone also offer a sturdy choice.
Longevity does, however, come at a price, and not for the material alone but installing a natural slate roof is a time consuming, highly skilled job, and therefore a substantial cost to factor into your budget. If you’re re-slating a period roof, we can try to preserve as many of the existing slates as possible.
We can match these with natural slates of a similar size, hue and texture, and re-lay in a random assortment to create a characterful roof.
Alternatively, we can take slates to a reclamation yard (good-quality reclaimed slate is in high demand), and this is both a cost-effective and sustainable solution.
Natural slate is worth the investment if renovating a period property, or matching a new build to suit the local vernacular.
